The
Schaw Home in Bearsden
The 130-year old, Tudor Gothic mansion is a well-known landmark. It was built by Miss Marjory Schaw
as a memorial to her late brother, Archibald S. Schaw, merchant, and gifted to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1893. The architect was James Thomson. The commanding feature is the central square tower. The impressive, B-listed building was used as an overflow hospital for patients requiring urgent medical attention during World War Two. From the 1870s - 1980s the mansion was used as a convalescent home by Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Subsequently run as the Lyndoch Nursing Home. In 2007 it was converted into private apartments and re-named as Schaw House. |
